Molly Mahon runs an eponymous luxury interior brand which focuses on fabrics, wallpaper and homewares adorned with her signature block printed designs. Based in her Sussex studio, her designs are lovingly handcrafted, featuring beautifully bold motifs that are designed to be mixed and matched to create a warm, layered home. Her colourful designs are full of joy, immediately showing the love and care that go into them.
We caught up with Molly to chat about her craft, how she first got into block printing, her love of nature, and how she incorporates sustainability into her business.
How did you first get into printmaking and block printing?
I first discovered block printing in a studio here in the UK. I took a workshop on a whim and was instantly hooked to the magic of this age-old craft. The rhythm of hand to cloth and the imperfect beauty of each print completely captivated me. It felt like a way of creating with heart, not haste. The rhythm, the tactility, the joy of making something with your hands. I ended up working for the wonderful woman who ran that very studio, learning everything I could. And rather magically, I’ve just recently taken on that space myself. It feels incredibly special to have come full circle. It is where my journey began and now it’s the heart of my own creative world.

Could you explain the process of block printing?
At its core, block printing is a beautiful, slow process. All my designs are hand drawn here in Sussex. We then commission the carving of the design into wood, creating a stamp. This block is then dipped in pigment and carefully pressed onto cloth, repeat by repeat. It takes time and precision, and that’s what makes it so special. Every piece carries the unique fingerprint of the maker, and you feel that energy in the final fabric.
Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
Nature is my greatest muse: the British countryside, Indian gardens, woodland walks. I’m forever collecting leaves, photographing flowers, sketching the little details that often go unnoticed. I’m also drawn to old textiles, folk art and historic botanical paintings. Inspiration is everywhere once you start looking.
Where are your designs crafted?
Our block-printed fabrics and wallpapers are handcrafted in Delhi in India, a place where the tradition runs deep and the craftsmanship is extraordinary. It’s a place that has completely shaped my creative journey. The collaboration between our team here in the UK and the artisans there is something I treasure. It’s a true meeting of minds and hands.
How do you incorporate sustainability into your business?
Sustainability, for me, starts with intention. We work with natural fibres, low-impact dyes, and traditional techniques that respect people and the planet. Our collections are produced in small batches, using up all the mixed paint, to avoid waste. And because everything is crafted by hand, there’s an inherent slowness and care that sits at the heart of what we do.
How do you showcase your prints in your own home?
My home is a patchwork of prints and colour. I love to layer pattern on pattern. Our tablecloths are always out, there are joyful cushions on every sofa, and I often use offcuts to upholster stools or add little café curtains to my kitchen. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about creating a space that feels warm, expressive and lived in.
What’s next for Molly Mahon? Are there any products you’d love to print or brands you’d love to work with?
I’m always dreaming! I’d love to do more with hand-printed clothing and bedding, to wrap ourselves in patterns head to toe. I’m also drawn to collaborations with brands who share our love of craft and colour. Anything that celebrates handmade and brings a bit more beauty into the everyday excites me.
We love that you encourage people to try block printing themselves with your Create Academy course, workshops and printing kits. Do you have any advice for someone trying out block printing for the first time?
Absolutely. Just have a go! Block printing is wonderfully freeing because perfection isn’t the goal. Embrace the wobbles and smudges, they’re what make it charming. Start small, play with colour and enjoy the process. There’s such joy in creating something with your own hands.
What other British brands do you admire?
I’m drawn to brands that value craftsmanship and creativity, companies like yourselves, Toast, Daylesford, and Edward Bulmer who share a deep respect for materials and making. There’s something very grounding about British design when it’s rooted in tradition but made for today.
Molly is wearing the GS Laide v-neck knitted vest and GS Walking Socks.
