The Yarn

100% super-soft wool

Genevieve creates the Laides’s neutral, fresh hue through a carefully balanced putty melange with hints of chalk.

The super-soft wool Genevieve has selected for the Laide is spun by a highly respected UK spinner and guaranteed mulesing-free. It has the beautiful characteristics of traditional Shetland wool with a soft touch, providing both comfort and warmth. The secret to its luxurious handle is that it comes from the ‘first clip’ of the lamb – an initial shear known for its unrivalled softness. Finer and more expensive, it produces a garment of exceptionally high quality without compromising on its authentic Shetland character.

Once knitted, it’s then brushed using the teasel thistle – a rarely-used specialist technique that further enhances the sumptuously soft hand-feel. Completely natural and highly effective, the teasel thistle has for centuries been used to brush and soften yarn. By elongating the fibres, it not only creates a beautifully soft feel, but lends the wool a relaxed and subtly felted quality that no man-made brush could match.

A timeless wardrobe staple, the Laide vest is effortlessly versatile. Layer it over a classic white shirt or simple tee for an easy work-to-weekend look in the cooler months.

How to Care

Hand wash or dry clean only.

Thanks to the natural properties of wool and alpaca, your knit rarely needs frequent washing. These fibres are naturally breathable and odour-resistant, meaning a little care goes a long way.

Allow your sweater to rest between wears, air it in fresh air or sunshine, and spot clean when needed. When washing is required, gently hand wash in cool water using a wool detergent, reshape while damp and dry flat.

Our brushed wool styles are finished to create a soft, light halo across the surface of the knit. With wear, these fibres may naturally settle or gather slightly — this is part of the character of brushed wool and often becomes even more beautiful as the knit relaxes with time. If needed, the texture can be easily refreshed by lightly brushing the surface with a soft clothes brush from time to time.

With thoughtful care, your knit will remain beautifully soft and wearable for years to come.
