All About Our Oversized Scarves

There’s a reason why our oversized scarves are one of our most loved designs. They’re more than just a simple scarf; they’re a wardrobe staple that you reach for time and time again, suitable for all seasons and any occasion. As I write this, I’m reading messages from customers who have been in touch over the last week to let us know how loved their scarves are and how they use them – from summertime picnics to draping over their shoulders while watching the proms and as a blanket whilst travelling on flights.

Each year I sell out of these beloved scarves in record time – last year within just ten days of launching! It would take me four months to be able to knit the next batch, so customers were often disappointed if they didn’t order early enough for Christmas gifts. However, this year is different. I will be taking pre-orders of our Autumn/Winter scarves to help both our team and our customers plan ahead.

I am knitting with discontinued yarns for this next batch of our oversized scarves, so there will be a limited amount available. As always, they will be crafted from the highest quality Yorkshire-spun lambswool, but the colours I am using are no longer available. I’ll be launching pre-orders of these colourways in September and will have a small amount of extra yarn to knit in the autumn, but when they are gone, that is it.

We’ll be making these scarves in-house at our GS studio. This is the first design with a textural jacquard that we’ve designed, developed and made in-house – I’ve loved the whole process from creating on the machines to testing out different yarns and finalising the design.

The texutral geometric has been inspired by 1930's woven textiles and mark making through natural forms.

How we make the scarves may have slightly changed, but they’re still the design that you all know and love—generously proportioned, designed for both comfort and longevity, with a beautiful drape and textured knit making them possibly the most versatile piece in our collection. I love to wear mine to wrap up in winter or drape over my shoulders on a breezy summer’s evening.

And I love to hear how you wear yours, and to see photographs of customers still wearing theirs five or six years after purchasing, styled in new ways and taken along on their travels. These scarves become one of those beloved garments that are a go-anywhere, do-anything staple in your wardrobe; a tactile favourite that offers pure comfort every day.

A few suggestions for how to style, inspired by how I wear my own and from our lovely customers:

-       Wear as a wrap on a summer evening, whether at a countryside picnic or by the coast.

-       Layer over a wool coat in winter for instant texture and extra warmth.

-       Use as a shawl for long travel days or evenings out.

-       Carry as hand luggage to keep you warm on a long flight.

-       Keep it draped over your favourite chair, ready to throw on whenever a chill sets in.
