A timeless classic that can be worn all year round, our Laide brushed wool knitted vests can be styled in a multitude of ways. Whether you prefer a bold punchy colour to brighten up a simple outfit, or a classic neutral for cosy layering, our new vests are a highly versatile addition to your wardrobe – but how do you style them?
Our Laide knitted vests are crafted from brushed wool, which you can read more about in this recent article. In a nutshell, the super-soft Shetland wool is sourced from the ‘first clip’ of the lamb (an initial shear known for its softness) then spun by a highly respected UK spinner. Once knitted, it is brushed using a teasel thistle, a time-honoured technique which elongates the fibres of the wool, creating a beautifully soft texture while also giving the wool a unique relaxed and subtly felted quality.

They’re currently available in a choice of six colours across womenswear and menswear. There’s a bright red and celadon green for a bright, fun colour to liven up an outfit; or burgundy, charcoal, navy and nutmeg offer a more muted palette with timeless colours. Lightweight yet cosy, the Laide vests add an extra layer for bundling up in the colder months, or are an alternative to long-sleeved knits for adding warmth during spring and summer. Read on for our outfits suggestions for how to style them in your everyday wardrobe.
Add interest to a t-shirt and jeans
Suitable for anything from a casual office to drinks with friends, layering a knitted vest over a simple white or black t-shirt with your favourite pair of jeans is a classic look where you can’t go wrong. Whether you wish to add a pop of colour (such as with the bold red Laide vest) or are happier in neutrals while adding warmth, our vests add both texture and interest to this classic pairing.

Layer over a dress
It may not be the most obvious option, but I adore the look of an oversized dress with a knitted vest layered over the top. Not only is this ideal for adding extra warmth to lighter dresses during the colder months, but if you’re wearing a printed dress, it allows more of the design to be on show than if you layered with a jumper or cardigan. You could also add a belt to cinch your waist, tucking in and pulling up the vest for a casual silhouette.

Pair with a classic white shirt
For a work-to-weekend look that is stylish while also keeping you cosy, I love to layer a knitted vest over a simple white shirt. This is such a timeless look, especially if you opt for a neutral colour – although a bright pop of colour definitely adds interest. Depending on how formal your office is, pair with a smart pair of jeans or tailored trousers.

Wear with other knits
During the coldest months, when you need an extra layer of warmth, I love styling a knitted vest over a fine roll neck and beneath an Alva cardigan. I hate feeling cold, so tend to fill my wardrobe with knitted pieces that layer well together, so I can easily add or remove pieces as and when I need to.

Style on its own
Of course, you can wear the Laide knitted vest on its own with your favourite denim jeans or shorts for a relaxed, laid-back aesthetic. On a late spring day, when there’s still a bit of a chill in the air but you don’t want to be bundled up in layers (or if you’re visiting somewhere sunny yet chilly, such as Scotland in the summer months) it keeps your core warm without feeling too hot and sweaty. I also love the look of brushed wool in a rich colour against bare arms.
