All good things start with responsible fibres

When designing a piece of GS Knitwear, responsible design has always been at the forefront of every decision we make.

Every step we take is considered, from the origin of the raw fibre, the animals that produce it, the land it is grown on, the regenerative farming that puts back and restores biodiversity, and the final processes and finishes that create each signature piece of GS Knitwear.

Slow fashion has been the core pillar of the GS brand since the beginning. We believe in creating ‘forever knitwear’ that has integrity, ethics, and responsibility woven through every fibre. Because of this, we are delighted to share with you the Yarn Certification featured in our luxury knitwear collections; from sumptuous lambswool and sparkly viscose to buttons that help protect the Amazon rainforest, every detail has been meticulously curated with care.

For full transparency, we’ve put together a summary of the natural yarn fibres Genevieve Sweeney uses along with their certifications, so you can be confident that the knitwear you’ll receive will be of the utmost quality, ensuring your long wear and complete satisfaction.

RESPONSIBLE LAMBSWOOL

The lambswool yarn in our collection has an RWS (Responsible Wool Standards) certification, meaning that both the sheep that produce it, and the land on which they graze, are actively protected and looked after. Discover the collection knitted in RWS Lambswool here.

CASHMERE

The cashmere blend in the Maud and Mauden jumpers proudly carries an SFA (Sustainable Fibre Alliance) certification, a manufacturing standard dedicated to creating responsible cashmere production practices that safeguard people, animals, and the environment - something we’re incredibly passionate about. Discover the GS Sweater collection here.

organic cotton

The premium cotton knitted into our organic cotton sock collection has been certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (known as GOTS), so you can be confident that you’re only putting the best quality fibres on your feet. Discover the GS Organic Cotton Socks here.

THE ALPACA COLLECTION

Genevieve has hand-selected fleece from The Border Mill’s herd of Alpacas to create unique yarn, certified by Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS) and spun from family connections within the herd to give a distinctive, individual look and feel with blends of natural colours.

Every garment is produced within the UK and has an incredibly soft feel that emphasises the characteristics of alpaca fibres. Every yarn is exclusive and every garment, completely individual.

SPARKLY GS SOCKS

Each sparkly yarn detail within the GS socks collection carries either the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certification, the  Eco Vero certification or STANDARD 100 OEKO-TEX® certification. Discover the GS Sparkly Sock Collection here.

regenerative viscose

All the viscose knitted in the new Spring Summer collection is 100% pure regenerated viscose that is 100% recycled and is RCS 100 (Recycled Claim Standard) certified.

RCS 100 verifies the presence and amount of recycled material in a final product, allowing for the evaluation and verification of recycled materials content claims on garments and other products. It is used to communicate honestly with customers, and is awarded through a third-party chain-of-custody verification process.

Our viscose is sourced from Northern Italy. Discover the Viscose Garment Collection here.
